Daniel Eugene Belcher was born 11 August 1836 in Granby, Hampshire County, Massachusetts to William Belcher and Lois (Ayers) Belcher. Lois was William Belcher's third wife. Daniel grew up to run his father's store in Granby. He married Ellen M. Hosmer Christmas Eve, 24 Dec 1863. They had a son William Hosmer Belcher on 12 Jul 1866. By 1876, he and his family had moved to Boston where records show that he was a grocer. His son Charles Lawrence Belcher was born 01 January 1877 in Boston. The Federal Census for 1880 shows Daniel and family living in New York City where he lived until his death. Daniel died in an accident when he was thrown from a street car and succumbed to his injuries on 08 September 1899. He was survived by his wife and two sons.
