Randall Lee Karstaedt passed away on November 14, 2013. Randy was born January 11, 1954 in Sheboygan, WI to Wilbert & Patricia (Burkhardt) Karstaedt. He is survived by his wife Clare (Leonardi), his mother Patricia (Burkhardt), sisters Bonnie (Butch) Waack, Judy (David) Walber plus nieces and nephews Nick Waack, Ashley Waack, Emily (Shaun) Raganyi, and Andrew Walber. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Malinda Burkhardt and numerous aunts uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.

Randy was a 1972 graduate of Kiel High School, Kiel, WI. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point in 1976 with a B.S. degree in Forestry/Soil Science. He had an amazing 35 year career with the United States Forest Service that began in Alaska immediately upon graduating from college. He began as a soil scientist - summer-seasonal employee and then became a permanent employee of the US Forest Service, in October, 1976, living and working on the Craig Ranger District and on the Tongass National Forest, Ketchikan, AK in timber and fire management. He relocated to Stanley, ID in 1980 as a Forester on the Sawtooth National Forest and Recreation Area. From 1988 to 1994, Randy was a Realty Specialist and Lands Officer on the Inyo National Forest, Bishop, CA and then he relocated to the Intermountain Region in Ogden, Utah where he was the Special Uses Coordinator for recreation and lands. Randy then transferred to the USFS National Headquarters in Washington DC for seven years and made his way back west in 2004 to work at the USFS Lakewood, Colorado office in the role of Director of Physical Resources, Rocky Mountain Region from where he retired in October, 2011.

Randy loved being a Forester and the work he did for the US Forest Service. During his extensive career, Randy was a friend, teacher, mentor and leader to many people he met along the way. Over the course of 35 years, he worked on forest, fire and land management teams, planning, public affairs, land ownership programs, special uses programs, scenic easements, special uses programs, timber sales, logging systems and much, much more. He enjoyed being a steward for America's land and for the public.

Randy loved God, his family and many friends, and the Green Bay Packers. He was greatly loved and will be missed by many.
