Joyce W. Rex, age 87, resident of South Bend, passed away on Sunday evening, May 5, 2019, at Center for Hospice Care in South Bend, IN. She was born on August 17, 1931 in Luck, Wisconsin, to Luther and Violet (Gilbert) Hall, both of whom preceded her in death.

In 1947 in Plymouth, IN, Joyce married Richard Evans, who preceded her in death in 1959. Following his death, Joyce met and married Robert Switalski in 1960 in South Bend. Robert passed away in May of 1971. Joyce was later introduced to Ralph Rex, whom she married on January 23, 1988 in Mishawaka. They enjoyed 27 years of marriage before Ralph passed away on March 4, 2015.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Linda L. (Michael) Moran of Mishawaka, and Dawn M. (David Whitten) Hupp of Niles, MI; sons, Alan N. Evans of Iowa, and Edward J. (Cynthia) Switalski of South Bend; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Penny Hall of San Jose, CA. In addition to her parents and husbands, Joyce was preceded in death by her son, Norris J. Evans; grandson, Robert M. Evans; sister, Sylvia Gilbert; and brothers, Walter Hall, Ernest Hall, and Gordon Hall.

Joyce was employed as an inspector at Ramada Inn in Elkhart, Indiana. She retired in 1993 after fourteen years of service. She lived most of her life in the South Bend area, after living in Michigan for 28 years. She was a member of the American Legion #143 in Bristol, IN. She was a member of Harris Prairie Church of Christ in Granger, IN.

Funeral services for Joyce will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00-7:00pm on Thursday, May 9th at the funeral home, with additional visitation from 10:00-11:00am on Friday at the funeral home prior to services.
