Anna Bell “Ann”Stapler Smith, age 87of Bremen, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 7, 2019 surrounded by family and friends at her residence. She was born on January 10, 1932 in Cleburne County, AL, daughter of the late William Jack Stapler and Willie Butler Stapler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Reba Farmer, Claire Poor, Marie Carroll; brothers, Johnny Stapler, Jimmy Stapler, Donald Stapler; a grandson, Rory Huey; a great grandchild, Madison Ploof and son-in-law, Stephen Martin.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Bayview High School in Jefferson County, AL. She started her career as a seamstress with Cluett Peabody and Company, and subsequently retired as a twenty (20) year owner/operator of Huddle House Restaurant in Bremen.
Mrs. Smith is survived by three daughters and one son; Linda (Mark) Shedd, Larry (Vicki) Smith, Sandra Jo Martin, Charlene (David) Caldwell; a brother, Troy (Sara) Stapler and a sister, Linda Faye Rider. She is also, survived by twelve (12) grandchildren, thirty-eight (38) great grandchildren and six (6) great, great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 4:00 until 9:00 PM.
Services will be Saturday, May 11 at 4:00 PM from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Reverend Van Brown and Reverend Ricky Shirley officiating. Music will be furnished by Bobby Robinson, Peggy Shepherd and David Caldwell. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Dale Huey, Jade Smith, Scotty Huey, Tim Bridges, Brandon Bates and Dewayne Stapler. Troy Stapler, Junior Lewis, Mark Robinson, Bear Crawford, Joel Martin and Mark Moore will serve as pallbearers. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Reverend Jon Smith officiating.
