In 1968, John moved to Green Bay where he joined the engineering department of WBAY-TV. He continued in that capacity until the late 70's when new technologies displaced him. After stints at WPNE-TV and WFRV-TV, he went back to school and became a computer programmer in computer languages that became obsolete shortly after he graduated. He worked various jobs in electronics and even worked the television relay towers on Scray's Hill for several years. Eventually John went to work as a part-time custodian at Resurrection Parish where he was welcomed with open arms—a feeling he carried with him until the end. A religious man and devout Catholic, John was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1959.
John will be sorely missed by his brother Steve (wife, Susan) of Green Bay, his niece Jennifer Frozena (husband, Jon Bero) of Portland, OR, and nephew Joel (wife, Ellie) Frozena and their daughters Cambria and Adeline of Berkeley, CA. John found fellowship and friendship with the gang at the Pump Room where cribbage and a few beers always brightened his day. He never stopped learning and he never stopped reading. He was a regular at the downtown library for years even though he had to take the bus to get there after his car broke down. There was almost nothing that did not interest him.
He will be missed by his relatives and the many friends he made through a lifetime of quiet listening and being inquisitive.
Visitation for family and friends will take place on Friday, May 10, 2019, in the Gathering Space at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Drive, Green Bay from 9:00 to 11:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am with Msgr. James Feely presiding. Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Manitiowoc.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's name to the American Heart Association. John was also very fond of the times he volunteered at the Green Bay Area Humane Society.
The family wishes to thank the members of the Green Bay Metro Rescue Squad for their care and concern when they were called to help John in his distress. Also, a huge thank you to the St. Vincent Emergency Staff, the Cardiac Unit and the Intensive Care Unit for their care and compassion as John struggled to stay with us one more day.
