Graveside services for Aaron James Brooks, Sr., 79, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald Dunn officiating.
Mr. Brooks died today, July 26, 1995, at Sterling Heights.
He was born April 30, 1916, in Lawrence, the son of Carl and Cora Frances Clark Brooks. He grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School, where he played football. He moved to California in 1956, where he worked in the oil fields and in the shipyards as a pipefitter. He later joined the Merchant Marines. He returned to Lawrence in 1961.
He was married to Beatrice Irene Dozier. She died.
Survivors include a son, Aaron James, Jr., Lawrence; five daughters, Cora Brooks, Las Vegas, Minnie Thomas, Aarene Brooks, Colleen Hedgecock and Maureen Brooks, all of Lawrence; two brothers, Lloyd Arthur, Lawrence, and Carl, California; a sister, Lillian Deay, Lawrence; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
