Claude B. Hanes, age 77, of Two Rivers, died Friday afternoon, May 24, 1996, at the Manitowoc Health Care Center.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 1996, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Kenneth Dowdy with burial to follow in Knollwood Memorial Gardens.

He was born July 11, 1918, in Amasa, Mich., son of the late Alpheus and Martha Hanes. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the United States Navy. On May 11, 1940, he married the former Leona Birr at Dubuque, Iowa. Claude was owner/operator of Claude Hanes and Son Contractors for many years and later was employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding until his retirement. He enjoyed wood-working, and attended and displayed his work at many craft shows.

Survivors include his wife, Leona; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Floyd and Joan Hanes, Two Rivers, Russell Hanes and his special friend, Sue Romdenne, Two River; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Judy and Hilary Gretz, Manitowoc, Kay and Malcolm Peroutka, Mishicot, Linda and Jim Sand, Two Rivers; Claudia and Joe Rutherford, Manitowoc, Gloria Hanes and special friend, Tom Duenkel, Cato; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Tynne Hanes, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Willard Birr, Two Rivers; special camping friends, Carol and Gerald Kruse and family, Hilda and Darwin Klein, Norma and Erin Klein, Elaine and Bob Brand, Loren Klein, and Betty Hansen; a number of niece, nephews, other relatives and friend. He was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.

Friends may call at the Deja and Martin Funeral Chapels from 5-8 p.m. Monday and at the church Tuesday after 10 a.m. until the time of service.
