Daniel J. Janda, age 75, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life while surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.

Dan was born on October 2, 1938 in Kewaunee to the late Edward and Emily Cherney Janda and grew up on his family farm. He graduated from Washington High School in Two Rivers with the class of 1957. Dan served as a medic in the United States Army for two years until his honorable discharge. On May 5, 1962, Dan married his sweetheart and the catch of his life, Katie Zelewske at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tisch Mills. Together they enjoyed 52 years of a happy marriage. Dan was employed at Mirro Corporation where he worked as a maintenance mechanic and specialized in fire sprinkler systems, filling L.P. gas tanks, and lift truck brake maintenance. He worked there for 37 years until his retirement in May of 2002. Dan was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 706, International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers and St. Francis of Assisi Parish. In his retirement years, Dan enjoyed fishing, dancing, going to shows and casinos, and above all cherished the time he was able to spend with his family and friends.

Survivors include Dan's wife: Katie; five children: Andy Janda, Willow, AK; Karen (Daniel) Young, Appleton; Thomas Janda, Manitowoc; Bonnie Janda, Manitowoc; and Jennifer (Jeffrey) Van Eyck, Francis Creek; five grandchildren: Joshua Janda, Alexander (Mia Ji) DiLuzio, Emily, Marcella, and Jeremiah Van Eyck; sister-in-law: Virginia Janda; brother-in-law: Alvin Derenne; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law to include: Wayne Peronto, Henry Karl, Charlotte Zelewske, Filvia (Tony) Bohman, Patricia Tadych, Norbert (Annie) Zelewske, Barbara Engelbrecht, Linda (Al) Rezba, Clara (Steve) Rosinsky, Raymond (Lynn) Zelewske, and Roberta (Dan "Clete") Heinrich; also nieces, nephews other relatives and many good friends. Dan was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents: Edward and Emily Janda; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Norbert Sr. and Clara Zelewske; two sisters: Gloria Janda and Janet Derenne; two brothers: Harold and David Janda; three sisters-in-law: Lucy Peronto, Gloria Karl, and Bernadene Ollendorf; and four brothers-in-law: Arthur Ollendorf, Richard Tadych, Jack Musin, and Edwin Engelbrecht.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo - 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. Concelebrating the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Dan Viertel and Rev. Dennis Ryan with burial to take place at Knollwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. A prayer service will be led by Rev. Dave Pleier at 7:30 p.m. The visitation will continue on Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Immediately following the funeral service, military rites will be accorded outside of the church by Robinson American Legion Post 538 of Carlton, WI.
