Alfred E. Jonas, age 84, a resident of St. Mary’s Home, Manitowoc, formerly of Two Rivers, went home with our Lord early Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, with burial to follow in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc.

Alfred was born Sept. 27, 1919 in the town of Two Creeks, a son of the late Emil and Martha (Schmidt) Jonas, and attended the Twin Elder School. He was confirmed on Aug. 21, 1932 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Two Creeks. Alfred worked on the family farm in Two Creeks until moving to Two Rivers in 1945, and began working for Hamiltons Industries. He was employed with Hamilton’s for nearly 40 years, retiring on Sept. 1, 1981. Mr. Jonas married Edith Anklam on May 2, 1964 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. She preceded him in death November 28, 1997. Alfred was a longtime, faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and former choir member; he was also a member of the Two Rivers Senior Center. He enjoyed time spent with family, the deer hunting camp, and also enjoyed playing cards, dartball, and bowling.

He is survived by a daughter-in-law: Marilyn Anklam, Manitowoc; four grandchildren: Julie (Theran) Welsh, Madison, Jean (Dan) Slaby, Manitowoc, Carrie (Steven) Grumann, Sheboygan, and Christian (Michelle) Anklam, Two Rivers; six great grandchildren: Amber, Jennifer, Jackson, Taylor, Emma and Peter. He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Viola Pahnke, Pine Grove, and a very special friend, Grace Boness, Two Rivers; many cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Glen Anklam, and his brother, Arnold Jonas.

Relatives and friends may call at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, after 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning until the time of service at 10:30 am. There will be no Monday evening visitation.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Church or School, or Manitowoc Lutheran High School.
