Edmund Paul Sweeney was born on April 26,1903, in Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales. He was the son of William Sweeney and Margaret Maher, and the brother of John, Eileen, Vera Mary, Patricia (Sister M. Edmund, IHM), William Francis Jr., and Rita. The family (William, Margaret, John, Eileen, Edmund and Vera Mary) immigrated to the US in 1903 and settled in Scranton, PA. The last three children were born in Scranton.
Edmund married Ruth Catherine Hensel on November 11, 1933, in Scranton, PA. They were the parents of four sons, Edmund Francis, Arthur D., Thomas and Dennis Robert. The family lived in Archbald, PA. He was employed by the Erie Lackawanna Railroad for 45 years as a machinist. He also served in the PA National Guart for over 20 years.
Edmund died on April 27, 1978 at Community Medical Center in Scranton, and was buried in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, PA.
