Cynthia Wallace Butler, 48, of the 1600 block of Ashland Ave., died Jan. 18, 2001, in New Orleans.

Mrs. Butler was born in Fairhope, Ala., and had resided in the local area for the past 19 years. She received her bachelor's of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Alabama in 1981 and was working on her thesis for her master's in Transpersonal Studies from Atlantic University. Mrs. Butler was employed for 11 years at The Association for Research and Enlightenment where she most recently held the position of conference manager. She had been a dear wife, devoted mother, beloved daughter and sister in addition to a loving human role model to all those with the good fortune to share a portion of life's road with her.

Mrs. Butler is survived by her husband, Christopher R. Butler; a son, Elliott Ryan Butler; daughter, Elizabeth Yvonne Butler of Norfolk; and also a son, John Leslie Childre of Virginia Beach; her mother, Louise Wallace, father, George Wallace, both of Annapolis, Md.; two sisters, Sylvia Hardnett of Annapolis and Georgette Romer of Fort Collins, Colo.; and a brother, Robert Wallace of Raleigh, N.C.

A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Friday in The Association for Research and Enlightenment. A funeral Mass will be conducted at noon Saturday in Christ The King Catholic Church by the Rev. Bryan Rafferty. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow these services at Christ The King Catholic Church.
