Karan Belinda Cathey passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14. A lifelong Rabun County resident, Karan was the daughter of Ellis and Kate Cathey, late of Mountain City. She was also preceded in death by her older brother, Frank Cathey of Mountain City.

Karan is survived by her brothers, John and Dennis Cathey. John resides in Greenwood, South Carolina, with his wife Bernice. Dennis lives in Cornelia, Georgia, with his wife Vicki. Karan is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who brought her much joy.

Karan was a graduate of Rabun County High School and owned and operated Karan’s Café and Catering in Rabun Gap for decades until declining health prevented her from doing so. Karan was renowned for her ability to create whatever her clients desired, whether “down home” cooking or an elegant wedding reception.

Karan loved Rabun County and loved taking care of people. She was the primary caregiver for her mother Kate Cathey during the last years of Kate’s life. She was a wonderful daughter, sister and friend.
