WILLIAM BYERS II
~ William (Bill) Thomas Byers II, 73, of 224 Spring Lake Rd., died Thursday, Feb. 1995, at his residence.
~ A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Louise Clinton Byers and son of the late Fred C. and Mildred McSwain Byers. He was retired from Duke Power and chief of security at the Cherokee station. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor, member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, member of the Clover VFW, and a mason. He was chief of police in Clover for 13 years and a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
~ Also surviving are two sons, Ralph Dennis Clinton of York and William Thomas Byers III of Rock Hill; six daughters, Kaye Castillo of Spartanburg, Carolyn Greene of Clover, Lynn McClellan of Brevard, N.C., Rita Cooper of Greer, Marla Sarratt and Darla Parris, both of Gaffney; two brothers, Frederick Byers Sr. of Clover and George Byers of York; five sisters, Margaret Poteat of Charlotte, N.C., Sarah Wray and Judy Meek, both of Clover, and Nancy Moses of Beaulaville, N.C., and Dorothy (Dot) Melton of Clover; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
~ Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Jerry Ford. Burial was in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Clover.
~ Pallbearers were Donnie Castillo, Dan Greene, Jim McClellan, Steve Cooper, Kenneth Sarratt and Chris Parris.
~ The family is at the residence.
~ In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Special Needs c/o Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, or to Corinth Baptist Church, 190 Corinth Rd., Gaffney.
~ Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home was in charge.
