Isabel "Bana" Smith, 97, gently passed away on August 27, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas.
Isabel is survived by her lifelong partner and husband, George Smith; and their beloved children, Bruce and Gail Smith, Cindy and Mike McCann, and Andy and Patty Smith. Her ten grandchildren Todd Smith (Katie), Chad Smith (Tinsley), Jeff Smith (deceased 1989), John Summers (Becky), Joe Summers, Charlie Summers, Mandy Smith, Meredith Smith, Michael McCann (Angie), and Katie Gill (Chad); and their nine great-grandchildren, with one more expected in October.
She was the daughter of the late William Kyle Andrews and Mattie Mae Andrews; and the sister of the late Lillian Roberts, Virginia Travis, and William Andrews.
She was born August 26, 1920, in Moweaqua, Illinois, a small town founded by her great-grandfather and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Schneider, both born in Germany. She attended Stephens College in Missouri and graduated with an Associate of Art Degree in 1940. She met George during the first year of college and they married on May 17, 1941; the two celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary this year.
Isabel was an adoring wife, proud mother and grandmother, and a great support to her family and friends. She and George made Coffeyville, Kansas, home for 58 years, where they raised their three children and were active at the First Presbyterian Church and in their community. She was a proud Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, PTA President, moderator for Presbyterian Women and Circle Chairman and PEO Sisterhood member. In 1999, she and her husband relocated to San Antonio, Texas to be nearer to their growing family. There she became an active member at the First Presbyterian Church, KEYS Senior Adults, Circle #3 and in the local PEO Chapter. Her love for family will live on in the hearts of all she knew.
A service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 404 N. Alamo St., in San Antonio on Friday, September 1, 2017, at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to either the First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio or of Coffeyville.
Arrangements are with Porter Loring Mortuary.
