BEVERLY - Albert “Butch” E. Towne Jr., 65, of Elliot Street, Beverly and longtime Essex resident, died Monday, August 15, 2014, in Beverly Hospital, following his brief illness.
Born in Ipswich on February 8, 1949, he was the son of Esther L (Ricker) Towne of Beverly and the late Albert E. Towne. He was raised in Essex and Hamilton, and a 1967 graduate of Hamilton-Wenham High School.
For many years, he was employed in the building supply industry. He had worked at the Home Center in Essex, and most recently, at Home Depot in Danvers, from which he retired.
Butch enjoyed carpentry, R/C sailing at Redd’s Pond and being the captain of his boat the Kon Tiki. He’ll also be remembered as an avid Jimmy Buffet “Parrot Head.”
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Ashley E. Towne and her husband, Alain Park of Chicago, Ill., Courtney E. Nunes and her husband, Scott, of Beverly; four grandchildren, Eloise and Mathilde Park, both of Chicago, Aidan and Avery Nunes, both of Beverly; three brothers, Ronald R. Towne and Glenn R. Towne, both of Essex, Eric M. Towne and his wife, Carol, of Portsmouth, N.H.; two sisters, Susan Bissel and her husband, Mike, of Beverly, Sonja Towne of Beverly; his former wife, Susan M. Towne of Colorado; many nephews and nieces; his longtime friend, Doreen McManus of Georgetown; and his parrot companions, Rita and Kita.
ARRANGEMENTS:
His funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, August 21, in Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Piers Park Sailing Center, 95 Marginal St., Boston, MA 02128.
