She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert W. Lieb Sr.; sons, Robert W. Lieb Jr., and Stephen S. Lieb; brother, Harley Ellsworth Erb; sisters, Helen Erb Eller, Alberta Erb Holcomb, and Dorothy Erb Akers Pechin; and her parents, Alberta Body and Harley Ellsworth Erb.
In the 1930's, Virginia attended Salem College in Winston-Salem, N.C., and Roanoke College in Salem, Va., where she was an active member of College Lutheran Church from the 1930's through the late 1950's. Moving in 1959 to Buena Vista, Va., she became actively involved with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lexington, Va. There she served as President of Lutheran Church Women and Chairman of the church's Evangelism Committee. The church made her a life member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Lutheran Theological Seminary of Columbia, S.C. in 1975. In 1996 she returned to Salem and College Lutheran Church. She loved the Lord, her family, and her friends.
Virginia is survived by her daughters-in-law, Angela Lieb, of Salem, Va., and Linda Lieb Keyes, of Hickory, N.C.; granddaughters, Tina Lieb Bourne and husband Gene, of Salem, Va. and Emily Virginia Lieb Bourgette and husband, Justin, of Essex, Mass.; great-granddaughters, Madison Bourne and Callie Bourne, of Salem, Va.; niece, Dorothy Akers Thompson, of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; nephews, Dr. Blair Dillard Erb, of Townsend, Tenn., James Eric Akers, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Dixon Browder and wife Sara of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at College Lutheran Church in Salem, with the Rev. Wynemah Hinlicky officiating. Burial will be private at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke.
