Mrs. Vivian Bowman Petty age 76, a homemaker of Carthage, died at 6:46 a.m. Monday morning May 20, 2019 shortly after arrival at the Riverview Regional Medical Center E.R. in Carthage after becoming gravely ill at her Bradford Place home.
Her pastor, Bro. Frank Bratcher, officiated at the 11 a.m. Thursday morning May 23rd funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
She was the fifth and last surviving of ten children and was the daughter of the late Herman Alton Bowman who died June 14, 1983 at the age of 69 and Beulah Mai Smith Bowman Harp who died September 1, 1965 in an automobile-train accident in Gordonsville at the age of 46.
All nine of her siblings preceded her in death. They were: Brenda Sue Bowman Holmes Thrower who died at the age of 70 on March 19, 2019, Roger Edward Bowman who died April 2, 2018 at the age of 63, Jessie Wendolyn Bowman Hill who died February 19, 2017 at the age of 76, David Herman “Bodie” Bowman who died July 17, 2014 at the age of 53, Alton K. Bowman who died May 10, 2014 at the age of 70, Shirley Dean Bowman Kemp who died February 29, 2011 at the age of 75, Charlotte Ann Bowman Givens who died Christmas Eve December 24, 2000 at the age of 42 in a two vehicle accident in the Popes Hill Community, Billy Ray Sexton who died in 1981 and Elizabeth Ann Bowman who died October 30, 1946 at the age of 20 days.
Mrs. Petty was a 1960 graduate of Gordonsville High School.
She was saved in 1963 at the age of 21 and is now a member of the Carthage First Freewill Baptist Church in the Tanglewood Community.
Mrs. Petty was formerly employed at the former Meritor Corporation in Gordonsville where she worked in auto parts assembly.
Surviving are her four children, Eugene Petty of the Tanglewood Community, Jerry Petty and wife Gail of Gordonsville, Scotty Petty and wife Sherrie of the Brush Creek Community, Holly Petty Bush and husband Mickey of the Pea Ridge Community; brothers-in-law, Roy Thrower of Carthage and Don Hill of Clarksville, Georgia; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
