Neta Ella (Laing) Gaige
1926-2017
Neta Ella Gaige, 91, passed away on July 12, 2017 of natural causes surrounded by family at her home in Boise. She was born February 2, 1926 in Meridian Idaho, the youngest of two children of Oren and Cassie Laing.
Neta grew up in Meridian and graduated from Meridian High School in 1944. She met her husband, A. John Gaige in McCall, ID while he was stationed in Idaho with the Army Air Corps. They married in 1947 and were married for 63 years at John's death in 2010. Neta worked in secretarial positions at Northwestern Mutual Life and Oregon State College until 1950 when her husband completed his college degree. She worked in several family businesses while raising her children. Her biggest sorrow was the loss of her first child, Gerald Lynn Gaige, who died a few hours after his birth.
Neta dedicated her life to being a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She took each of her eleven grandchildren on a "special day" outing every summer and hosted many family dinners and holidays. Neta enjoyed fishing, traveling, baking, and sewing. She made many handmade items for her family, including crocheted afghans. She volunteered in her church and was always available to help anyone who needed a helping hand. People who got to know her came away feeling like they were part of her family as she lovingly accepted everyone for exactly who they were.
Neta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, and son Gerald. She is survived by three children, Gary (Brigetta), Susan (David) Fuller, and Bob (Kim Parlock) who all reside in the Treasure Valley; her sister, Eula Calnon of Meridian; eleven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
The family would like to express our thanks to her dedicated friends Monica and Lynell, daughter Susan, and granddaughter Angie, who made it possible for Neta to remain in her home until her death. Thanks to all the caregivers from Multicare Home Health and to Harrison's Hope Hospice for their compassion and allowing Neta to pass away with dignity. And a special thanks to Brian for his beautiful music that put a smile on her face during those last few days.
A graveside service was held for Neta on July 15, 2017 for friends and family.
