From The Ogden Standard-Examiner (Ogden, UT) - Sunday, January 6, 1952:
James L. Middleton, 81, retired conductor of the Southern Pacific Railroad, died of a heart attack yesterday evening while on his way home from a grocery store.
He was born in Ogden April 24, 1870, a son of Charles F. and Martha Browning Middleton. His father was a president of an LDS Stake and his mother, a daughter of the famous Ogden gun inventor, Johnathan M. Browning.
Mr. Middleton received his education in Ogden city schools, entering employment of the S.P. Railroad while a young man. He retired about 30 years ago. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Conductors, a member of Ogden Elks' Lodge No. 719, and of the LDS Second Ward.
Surviving are a brother and three sisters; Joseph W. Middleton and Mrs. Rachel M. Jensen, both of Ogden; Mrs. Zina M. Randall and Mrs. Minnie M. Couch, both of Los Angeles.
