Arlis M Akins passed away on June 11, 2007, he was born on March 7, 1933 in Lead Hill, Arkansas. He moved to Washington in 1945 where he attended Highland High School in Tieton, WA graduating in 1953, he was voted best dressed in school. His smile and enthusiasm for life was contagious; He loved his family and friends.

Arlis started in the grocery business as a box boy at the age of 15 and eventually purchased his first grocery store in February 1963 located in Quincy.

He served on the Board of Directors at U.R.M Stores Inc. for 18 years, three of which as Chairman of the Board. Arlis was full of ambition and a drive that never stopped, his accomplishments were many and his devotion to his family were never ending.

He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Quincy, his relationship with Jesus Christ was most important to him.

Arlis suffered from Heart disease and Cancer.

He is survived by his loving brothers, Andrew Akins of Snohomish, WA, EG Akins of Payette, ID and Floyd Akins of Potlatch, ID, his loving sisters, Alta Lynch of Ellensburg, WA and Nettie Brown of Deer Park, WA. Surviving spouse Rayda Akins the mother of his three children Diane and husband Steven Baxter of Kennewick, WA, John and wife Tamy Akins of Spokane, WA and James and wife Bonnie Akins of Othello, WA, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Effie Akins of Cowiche, WA, brothers, Otto Akins of Lead Hill, AR and WO Akins of Centralia, WA.

He will be deeply missed by his loving family, friends and all that knew him.

Visitation will be from Noon until 5 PM on Wednesday, June 20th at Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel 300 G Street SE Quincy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at the First Assembly of God Church, 526 H Street S.E., Quincy, WA concluding services and interment will follow in the Quincy Valley Cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers a memorial be made to the charity of your choice.
