GROTON -- Robert J. Cady, age 85 of Groton, passed away at Lahey Hospital in Burlington on October 8, 2017. He was the loving and devoted husband of 61 years to the late Rosemary (Kilbride) Cady who died in January of this year.

Born in Dorchester on September 19, 1932, he was the son of the late Patrick and Marie (Rosa) Cady. He was a graduate of Boston Technical High School and tried out for a few professional baseball teams as a pitcher. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He retired from MIT, having worked in technical design at Lincoln Laboratory and Haystack Observatory for 44 years. Bob and Rosemary married in 1956, moving to Groton in 1961 where they raised eight children. He was a communicant of St. Catherine's Parish in Westford, enjoyed tennis, softball, ping pong, reading, crossword puzzles and Jeopardy.

He is survived by his eight children, Melinda A. Cady of Groton, Maureen C. Kane of Groton, R. Barry Cady (Margarett) of Melrose, Judith C. Black of Acton, Laura S. Cawley (Richard) of Hingham, Philip D. Cady (Nancy Garcia) of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, Rosemary T. Sedlak (Michael) of Naperville, IL, and Robin H. Curran (Sean) of Melrose. Also survived by seven cherished grandchildren, Nicole Lauria (Anthony), Callie Black, Matthew Cawley (Emily), Kurt Cawley, Ben and Sean Cady, Ryan Sedlak, and great grandson Anthony Lauria, Jr. He was the father-in-law of the late Robert M. Kane.

CADY -- Robert J. age 85 of Groton, Oct. 8, 2017. Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Friday, October 13, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Badger Funeral Home, 45 School Street, Groton. Bob's funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 14, at 9:00 am in St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, 107 N. Main St., Westford. Burial will follow at Groton Cemetery, Groton.
