BOSSIER CITY, LA - Visitation for Mrs. Megan N. Brock of Bossier City will be at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Haughton on Saturday, May 15 from 4-6 P.M. Services celebrating and honoring her life will be conducted by Pastor Sione Tu'uta Sunday, May 16 at Grace Community United Methodist Church. Pastor Rob Weber will conduct interment services at Hillcrest following the memorial service. Mrs. Brock wanted all who attend to know that casual attire was fine for all services.
Mrs. Brock entered into rest early Wednesday morning after a brief and intense battle with cancer. Her family and Pastor Sione Tu'uta remained by her side.
Mrs. Brock was born in Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey, England on September 2, 1933. She was the youngest of eight daughters born to George and Mabel Nix. She moved to the United States with her husband and two small children in 1959 and resided in several states including Texas, Virginia, Illinois, Massachusetts and Arkansas before settling permanently in Louisiana. Although she retained her British citizenship, Mrs. Brock loved America and had made it her homeland.
Mrs. Brock worked at Highland Hospital from 1972-1999, with more than twenty of those years operating and supervising the switchboard. Upon her retirement from Highland, she returned to the hospital as a volunteer with the Pink Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Brock is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Alan C. and Anthea E. Blundell Brock and her two granddaughters; Ariel Catherine and Aileen Elizabeth all of Shreveport; her daughter and son-in-law Mabel Katherine and Chris Cherry of Benton; and her daughter, Belvia Mary Brock of Bossier City. Two sisters, Millicent Mitchell and Muriel Nix reside in England with their families. Her oldest nephew, Leslie Waddington, also resides in England.
Mrs. Brock was preceded in death by her grandson Aaron David Sumner Brock, her former husband Clarence A. Brock, Jr., her sisters, Marion Howard, Marjorie Harmsworth, Mavis Stokes, Myrtle Nix, Molly Nix, and her parents, George Ernest Nix and Mabel Pease Nix.
Honorary pallbearers for Mrs. Brock are Drs. Dean Griffen, Steen Trawick, Robert Minniear, Barron O'Neal, Wain Thompson, Robert Hernandex, and J. William Parker, Jr.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Brock are Cynthia Elizabeth Paris, Mary M. Qualey, Michael Stephens, Victor K. Phares, Kent Randall, and Rich Varner.
In lieu of sending flowers, Mrs. Brock requested that donations be made in honor of her "precious grandson, Aaron David Sumner Brock" to the following charities: The Hal Sutton Foundation for the Children's Hospital at 212 Texas Street, Suite 106, Shreveport, LA 71101 and Think First at 940 Margaret Place, Shreveport, La 71101.
The family would like to thank Judy Bates, R.N., JoAnn Green, R.N., Bettye Tuminello, G. S.W., and Pastor Larry Thatcher for their kindness shown to Mrs. Brock.
The family wishes to express their special and immense gratitude to Pastor Sione for his gentle presence during "English Mum's" final hours on earth and to the many friends who have been sources of comfort and love.
