(1921 - 2010)

Homer E. Zarn, age 88, a resident of North Ridge Medical & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, formerly of 1924 24th St., Two Rivers, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, Jan. 13, 2010.

Homer was born May 4, 1921, in Two Rivers, a son of the late William and Phrona (Schmidt) Zarn. He attended St. John's Lutheran Grade School and Washington High School, Two Rivers, graduating with the class of 1939. On Sept. 22, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 14, 1945. Homer married the former Ruth Kautsky at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Two Rivers, on May 17, 1947. He worked as a machine operator with Mirro Aluminum Co. for 38 years, retiring early due to poor eyesight. Homer was a very faithful, lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church; a very active member of the V.F.W. Post, and the American Legion of Two Rivers; and he enjoyed playing dartball with the VFW team, as well as other teams over the years. Homer enjoyed reading, and always enjoyed the time spent with family & friends for cookouts or family gatherings. He was the last survivor out of a group of seven friends, who over many years enjoyed fishing, watching Packers games and hunting in the Lakewood area together.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two sons and daughters-in-law: William and Lynn Zarn, Two Rivers; Mike and Barbara Zarn, Wisconsin Rapids; two daughters and a son-in-law: Polly Kakuk, Two Rivers; Amy and Rick Hearley, Green Bay; five grandchildren: Neal (Shannan) Zarn, Marsha (Jason) Hansen, Nicole Hebel, Adam Hearley, Alex Hearley; four great-grandchildren: Ethan, Nolan, Evyon, and Elle; and one sister and brother-in-law: June and Paul Marquardt of Manitowoc. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Semrau.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, 17th and East Park streets, Two Rivers. The Rev. David Scherbarth will officiate at the service, with military graveside rites being accorded by members of the VFW and American Legion Post of Two Rivers immediately following the service at the church. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at a later date in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. John's Lutheran Church, after 12:30 p.m. Friday until the time of service at 2 p.m. There will be no visitation this evening.

The family requests that no flowers be sent. A memorial fund will be established in his name.

Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th St., Two Rivers, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The Zarn family would like to express their sincere thanks to the entire staff of North Ridge Medical & Rehab. Center, especially to "His Girls", for all the loving care and kindness extended to Homer over the years.
