Sylvester (Barney) Schmitz, 74, of 22329 Hwy X, Kiel, died Saturday morning, October 14, 1989, at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, after a lengthy illness.
He was born December 27, 1914 at St Joe, Fond du Lac County, son of Anton and Lena Gerhartz Schmitz. He attended school in St Joe. On April 28, 1936 he married Delphine Klapperich at St Mary's Church, Marytown. The couple celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1986.
He was employed at the Kohler Company for 31 years, retiring in 1980. He also farmed in the Town of Schleswig. He was a member of St Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel; the Holy Name Society; St. Joseph The Worker Counsel 5539 Knights of Columbus, Kiel.
Survivors include his wife, Delphine; two sons, Brian and David (Janita) of Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Jane (Nels) Nelson, Plymouth; Mrs. Judith Ann (Wayne) Roller, Waukesha; Mrs. Nancy Lee (Charles) Buchmann, Manitowoc; ten grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer, St. Cloud; Wilfred, Mt. Calvary; Ernest, Northbrook, IL; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Bonlander, Mt. Calvary and Mrs. Martina Fenske, Fort Lauderdale, FL He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Thomas Leannah, pastor, officiating. Brief family rites will be held at 10 a.m. at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends, may call at Meiselwitz Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday, from 8 a.m. until the time of service. A Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. The Kiel Knights of Columbus 5539, will have a Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
