Micaela "Mickie" Costanzo, 16, of West Wendover died on March 3rd 2011. Micaela was born May 3rd 1994 in Elko Nevada.

Micaela was a student at West Wendover High School who was actively involved in sports such as basketball and track. Micaela also helped produce and edit the school newspaper. Micaela was referred to as a leader to many in her school, exhibiting a positive outlook on life, and able to maintain a sense of humor while joking around with family and friends. Micaela touched the lives of countless people during her time with us, and her memory will live on forever.

Micaela is survived by her mother Celia Costanzo, father Theodore "Teddy" Costanzo Jr., sisters Kristina Sweat, Delicia Costanzo, Jennifer Costanzo-Graham, Kim Costanzo, Amy Costanzo-Tran, and Grandmother Dorothy Payne.

Micaela was preceded in death by Joseph Robert Payne (grandfather), Theodore Costanzo Sr. (grandfather), and Shirley June Costanzo (grandmother).

Public memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. on March 15th 2011 at the Peppermill Concert Hall, followed by a reception at the Wendover Nugget Convention Room. A private funeral for immediate family and close friends will follow.

WEST WENDOVER, Nev. – Police discovered a freshly dug grave about five miles west of the town on Saturday. They set up tents and worked at the site on Sunday. Micaela, 16, went missing from Wendover while walking home from her high school on Thursday.

18 yr old Kody Cree Patten was arrested about 2 a.m. Monday and booked into the Elko County jail. Patten is a senior at West Wendover High School and knew Micaela, who was also a student there. Toni Fratteo was also arrested in the murder of Micaela.

Excellent student & star athlete disappeared & later was found murdered in a shallow grave. Her loss became a featured story on NBC's Dateline.

The youngest daughter of three girls born to her parents, she was looked up to by her family. A stubborn baby who didn't want to learn to walk, she put on track shoes & became a star.

At her funeral several coaches and teachers spoke.
Micaela's "infectious smile" could make anyone's bad day get better, one coach recalled. Others called her a "natural leader," the "go-to girl" and an "amazing person." School officials also announced the "Mickie Spirit of Friendship Award and Scholarship" during the ceremony.

Besides her parents, she is also survived by three older half sisters and her maternal grandmother.

Micaela was preceded in death by her grandparents Joseph Robert Payne, Theodore Costanzo, and Shirley June Costanzo.

Micaela was laid to rest on the Payne Family Ranch. She is buried next to her maternal grandfather.
