Gary Wayne Goodwin, son of the late Pauline and Vernon Goodwin, was born April 3, 1955, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He attended Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, Oklahoma where he graduated in 1973. He passed away May 31, 2019, in his home, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. On February 14, 1981, Gary married his best friend, Jodi Ellen Shults. They were blessed with two children, Casey and Kati. At an early age, Gary became a devoted sports fan. His favorite team to watch was the University of Oklahoma Sooners. From softball to football, he never missed an opportunity to watch a game. Gary’s love of Sooner sports was overshadowed by the pure joy he took in watching his children and grandchildren play. From his time as a coach and a supportive dad to a supportive papa, Gary attended games, excitedly cheering for their teams. Gary lived a full life, frequently surrounded by family and friends. He was an avid storyteller who was the life of the party. He was always able to get and give a laugh, finding humor anywhere. He was an incredibly kind and generous soul who freely gave his time and energy to help anyone in need. Gary will forever be remembered by his big smile and an even bigger heart. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and Vernon Goodwin; brother William “Butch” Goodwin; father-in-law Bill Shults; and mother in-law Ramona Shults. He is survived by his wife, Jodi Goodwin; his son, Casey Goodwin; his daughter, Kati Goodwin and partner Robert Garcia; and his grandsons: Conner Bennett, Aidan Florence, Draven Florence, Brandon Bennett, Easton Garcia, and Caden Goodwin. He is also survived by his sister, Cathy Goodwin and brother-in-law Pieter Zwemer; brothers Bob “Doug” Goodwin, Chris Goodwin, Joe Goodwin and wife Tami Goodwin; and brother-in-law Michael Shults and sister-in-law Laura Shults. Gary is survived by aunts, uncles, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well. Family, friends, and everyone in between is invited to attend the formal viewing at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home in Midwest City between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, located at 500 SW 104th, Oklahoma City, OK 73139.
