US Congressman. He was a Democrat who was elected to represent New York in the United States House of Representsatives, serving six terms from March 4, 1901 to March 3, 1913. Known as "Pop" Lindsay, he became a member of the New York State Assembly in 1881, but gave it up in 1886 for the more lucrative job of Kings County Coroner, a post he held for six years. He then served his six terms in Congress, and was a powerbroker in state politics. His son, New York Congressman George W. Lindsay, was a Democrat who served a Brooklyn district from 1923 to 1935 and his son-in-law, New York Congressman Steven Andrew Rudd served a Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island district from 1931 to 1936.
