Simeon Barbee, known as Sim to all that knew him, was born February 22, 1886, along with his twin James "Jim" Levi, to William H Barbee and Sarah Ann Collins, in Shelby County, Texas. Sim's father died shortly before 1900 and by 1910 he was living in Louisiana with his mother Sarah and brother Jim. There he met his wife to be Nellie Gallagher and by 1918 they were parents of a son T. J., having married in 1911. In about 1930, Sim moved his family back to Texas, settling in Jasper County at Kirbyville, where he and Nellie lived until their death. Sim was a retired sawmill laborer and was 93 at the time of his death. He was laid to rest in Kirbyville City Cemetery next to his wife Nellie, who had preceded him in death five years earlier.
