Andrew “Ted” Freeman died Monday, June 3, 2019, at the age of 89.

The youngest of five children, he was born Sept. 1, 1929, to Andrew and Mavis (Ewers) Freeman. The family lived in Craig, Colo., before moving to Lewiston when Ted was a young boy. After graduating from Lewiston High School, Ted joined the National Guard, then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Moses Lake, Wash., when he married Elsie Kruger on May 24, 1953.

The couple made their home in Moses Lake for one year before returning to Lewiston, where they raised five children. Several years after marrying Elsie, Ted opened a Hallmark store in Lewiston and thus began a long career in retail.

Over the years, he opened a variety of stores in several locations, most recently the Hallmark Picture Gallery in downtown Lewiston. With a career spanning more than six decades, it is hard to calculate the number of people Ted employed and the impact his businesses had on the local economy. Retail was his passion, one that never faded, even to the end of his life.

Elsie preceded him in death in 2013 after 60 years of marriage.

Survivors names omitted per findagrave policy.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. June 22 at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens, 3521 Seventh St., Lewiston
