She was born on July 29, 1946, at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro Arkansas to Bruce and Love Lang of Monette, Arkansas. Raised in Monette, Joan was always a proud "buffalo gal". She continued to be active in groups from Monette High School, which she graduated from in 1964. She married her husband of 54 years, Kenneth Wilborn, June 5, 1964.
As a nontraditional student, Joan graduated with a BSRN from the University of North Carolina- Wilmington, where she was President of student nurses. Joan worked in oncology research for two decades, getting her start at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. She was employed by Syneos Health until the time of her death.
Joan was survived by her husband Kenneth Wilborn, daughter Angie Wilborn, son Curtis Wilborn, grandchildren Rachel and Darik Kooistra, Makenna and Jakob McGowen, Leah and Michael Neese, Rebekah Wilborn and fiance Nick Johnson, Jerred Wilborn, and Gracia Wilborn. She also leaves behind two siblings, James and Mary Lou, and a beloved cousin, Beth Whited Thompson. Finally, great- grandchildren of the furry variety: Bella, Lucy, Shiva, Seraphina, and Cora.
Joan was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lula, and John Cornish; her parents, Bruce and Love Lang; her sister Tulula, and a nephew, John Lang. In addition, her mother-in-law, Opal Wilborn, and her grandparents-in-law, Betsy and Isaiah "Papa" Hyde.
Joan will be buried at Monette Memorial Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge. In lieu of a service, she had asked for her memory to be honored by spending time with loved ones.
