Horace Harmon Lurton, Jr. was the son of Mary Frances Owen and Horace Harmon Lurton, United States Chief Court Associate Justice.
Mr. Lurton moved to Washington, D.C. in 1911 when President Taft appointed his father to the Supreme Court. Until his retirement in 1942, Horace Jr. had served with the War Department and the Interstate Commerce Commission for about 25 years.
Horace Jr. married Margaret Richardson of Nashville, Tennessee on November 26, 1902. To this union three children were born, Horace Harmon Lurton III (1904-1990), Sally Evans Lurton (1906-1989), and Anne Davis Lurton (1916-2008).
