POQUOSON - Myrtle E. "Myrt" Rowe, 96, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was a homemaker; a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; and a member of the Quindie Roe Council #42, Degree of Pocahontas. She loved cooking (known for her seven layer lemon cake) and caring for others, always putting everyone else before herself, especially her family.

Myrt was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George Elmer Rowe; parents, Virginia Ann and Moody J. Firman Sr.; and sisters, Homer V. Carmines, Amelia E. Topping, Margaret E. Firth, and Matilda "Tee" Rose. She is survived by her brother, Moody J. "M.J." Firman Jr.; nieces, Judi Mas'Sey (Nikkii), Lucinda Inge (Conrad), Fran Corey, Brenda Beckelic, Sue Bailey (Jimmy), and Bea Payne (Jim); nephews, Barry Rose (Barbara), Clyde Firman (Tammi), Sean Rose, William Carmines (Mary Linda), and Roger Firth (Linda); and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, immediately followed by a funeral service at 12:30 p.m., in the funeral home chapel, by the Rev. George T. Insley Jr. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
