REV. THOMAS P. DURKIN SUFFERED CARDIAC ATTACK ON TUESDAY-WAS BORNIN IRELAND.

Rev. Thomas P. Durkin, formecurate at St. Patrick's Church, West Scranton, died early this morning ir the rectory of St. Joseph's Church Athens, Pa. Father Durkin, who was pastor of th Athens Church, suffered a cardiac attack Tuesday night.

Born in Kilasser, County Mayo Ireland, on Feb. 2, 1880, Father Durkin was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Durkin. His parents came to Scranton when he was a child and he attended St. Patrick's School.. Father Durkin also attended St. Thomas High School and Holy Cross College.

A graduate of St. Joseph's Seminary, Dunwoodie, N Y Father Durkin was ordained into the priesthood in St. Peter's Cathedral on July 25, 1911, by the late Bishop Michael J. Hoban. He took postgraduate work at Catholic University, Washington, where he received his degree of bachelor of canon law.

Stationed At St. Patrick's. Father Durkin was stationed at St. Patrick's Church as curate from 1920 to 1927. He went from there to St. Francis' Church, Overton, where he assumed his first pastorate. Later he was assigned to St. Peter's Church at Wellsboro and on Feb. 3, 1939, he was transferred to St. Joseph's Church in Athens.

Prior to being assigned to St. Patrick's Church Father Durkin was an assistant at churches in Sayre, Parsons and Williamsport.

Surviving are three brothers, Joseph, James and John, all of Scranton.
The funeral will be conducted Monday morning at 11 o'clock in St. Joseph's Church in Athens. Bishop William J. Hafey will pontificate at the funeral mass. Interment will be made in the priests' plot in the Cathedral Cemetery. this city.
