Cliff Doffing, of Braham, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was 87 years old.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Clifford “Cliff” Joseph Doffing, of Braham, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was 87 years old.
Clifford, lovingly known as Cliff, was born on September 19, 1931 in New Trier, Minnesota to parents Otto and Marie (Blatz) Doffing. The eldest of nine children, Cliff was raised on the family farm. As a teenager, he worked on the farm and also picked vegetables for the local cannery. When Cliff was 18, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served his basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and on December 1, 1952, he was united in marriage to Helen D. Wells on base. Two months later, he was shipped overseas where he served as a cook and driver. He had the opportunity to drive Marilyn Monroe around while she was on a USO tour. After his discharge, Cliff returned home to his wife and new daughter, Sherry. Cliff and Helen lived in Newport and were blessed with three more children, Deborah, Linda, and Harry. Over the next few years, Cliff worked at the Armors meat processing plant, at Southview Chevrolet as a mechanic, and at the Hasting Lock and Dam.
In 1966, Cliff and the family purchased a farm in Bock where they milked dairy cows, raised pigs, sheep, and chickens. In 1972, they moved to their farm in Braham and continued to farm until the late 70’s. After retiring from farming, Cliff took a job with Ratzloff Trucking, hauling wood products around Minnesota for the next three years. Cliff and Helen then hit the open road while hauling freight across the country as an over the road truck driver. After 8 ½ years traveling, Cliff fully retired.
In retirement, Cliff and Helen enjoyed RV camping, fishing, and listening to bluegrass music. For a number of years they spent the first 2 months of their winters in Texas and the final month in Arkansas. Cliff loved to spend time with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, but most of all Cliff loved to antagonize his sons-in-law. He will be dearly missed.
