Gary Hiram Brouwer was the son of Andrew and Antoinette Van Helten Brouwer. As a youth he attended Pleasant #7 and Montezuma schools. Gary served in the United States Army.
He was married to Nadine Johnson in 1950 in Grinnell, Iowa. To this union six children were born: Andrew, Kevin, Douglas, Kelly, Kimberly and Tina.
Gary was employed as a heavy equipment operator and farmer. He was a skilled mechanic and certified welder. He enjoyed working on old trucks and equipment.
In later years, he enjoyed spending winters in California and Texas.
Gary always had a dog as a companion and near his side.
