Thomas was the son of Albert T. Allen & Sarah Elizabeth Mynes and brother of Noah R. Allen.

Thomas Allen, an attorney-at-law residing at Montgomery, and known in Hinton, was run over and instantly killed by a Chesapeake & Ohio passenger at that Fayette county town Thursday night. The man stepped from one of the railroad tracks to avoid an approaching freight train, but stepped in front of the oncoming passenger and was ground under the wheels.
The dead man was a former resident of Hurricane, in Putnam county, and is well known in that county as well as in Fayette and Kanawha counties, where he had practices his profession for several years.
He was a brother of Noah Allen, Hurricane merchant, and a member of a family noted for its substantial character. Before entering the profession of law, he was a teacher in the schools of Putnam county, and just prior to his admission to the bar he was a member of the board of examiners in Putnam county.

T E Allen, a Winding Gulf justice of the peace, was killed by a train Thursday afternoon, according to advices reaching here Sunday. He met death near Sofia on the Winding Gulf. Allen was riding a speeder over the Winding Gulf branch of the Virginian and seeing a freight train approaching, he was in the act of clearing the track with it when the train sideswiped it, throwing him against the side of the engine and killing him instantly. He was forty years of age and married, but had no children.
