Alma M. Sewell, 79, of Lafayette, died at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at her residence.
She was born July 8, 1932, in Chicago, to the late Mable Sewell. She had lived in Lafayette for the past 15 years.
Ms. Sewell worked for the postal service in Chicago for several years and then worked in the housekeeping department at the Bethany Methodist Hospital in Chicago for 25 years before retiring.
She was raised in the Baptist church and enjoyed reading her Bible, cooking and listening to gospel music.
Surviving is one son, Joseph Sewell of Rossville; and one daughter, Jessie Sewell of Lafayette; one sister, Jean Thomas of Chicago; a granddaughter, Cynthia Sewell, with whom she made her home; and one grandson, Jacob Sewell.
Services will be held in Lafayette.
