Born at Boggs Run in Virginia (now WV). Her mother was Jane Irwin dau. of James Irwin early settler in Peters Twp. Cumberland Co., PA. and Jean McDowell. The Irwin family came from Glenoe, Antrim, Ulster, Northern Ireland. Family tradition states that 8 of 10 children of Robert Irvine sailed from Londonderry, Ireland for America on 9 May 1729 in the ship "George and Ann" landing in Philadelphia PA. These Irish born descendants of Robert Irvine operated linen mills near Larne, County Antrim, Ireland The family originated in Scotland.

The Irvine line is related to the the Lairds of Drum Castle. 10 of them. The branches include Direct descendants of William the Conquerer, the Plantagenet ' s King Edward I, II, and III, Robert de Bruce King of Scotland, and the Sinclairs lords of Roslyn Chapel and Knights Templar fame. She truly had a very Nobel background.

After the death of Jane the family moved on to Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., IA
