DONALDS SC — Amanda ‘Ruth’ Moore Burton, 73, of Donalds, died peacefully Friday, June 21, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Ware Shoals SC a daughter of the late James Allen ‘Bye’ Moore and Lila Ivester Moore. Ruth was a 1964 graduate of Dixie High School and attended Erskine College. She was blessed with many talents and graciously contributed to the entire Abbeville area. Ruth was employed in various careers. Her service to Monsanto, Flexible Technologies, Gilliam’s Florist, Aramark Food Service at Erskine College and Abbeville County as director of food service at the Detention Center exemplified her extensive areas of expertise. Currently Ruth was Director of Bowie Arts Center at Erskine College, a position which gave her many hours of pleasure. Previously serving as ‘Dorm Mother’ in Carnegie Hall at Erskine College enabled her to guide and influence many students. Ruth served on the Burt-Stark Board of Directors and is a member of the Abbeville Historical Society, Eastern Star and the Due West ARP Church. She was an outstanding historian; she enjoyed antiquing and will live on in the memory of those touched by her life. Ruth was a pillar of our community and will be missed. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Lillie Moore Long; two brothers-in-law, Gordon Stone and Clyde Long. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Ivey Layne Busbee and a granddaughter, Hunter Ashleigh Busbee, both of Greenwood; a sister, Shelby Moore Stone of Donalds; many nieces, nephews and close friends.
