John J. Huffman

John J. Huffman, 69, of 114 Dixieway N., died at 9 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital from lung cancer. He was born in Lapel, Ind., June 3, 1898 and was a resident of Greene Twp. from 1921 to 1955, when he moved to Roseland. He was owner of General Roofing and Insulation Co., Inc. He was married July 12, 1928 in South Bend to Helen Esther Tritt, who survives. Their son, John B. was killed Jan. 20, 1958 when he fell through a roof at the University of Notre Dame while working on a building. Surviving are two granddaughters, a brother, Robert S. of Plainview, Tex.; three sisters, Lucille Fay of Monterey, Calif. Friends may call after noon Thursday in Forest G. Hay and Son Funeral Home until the funeral there at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Rev. Daniel W. Fowler of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of South Bend Turners and Elks Lodge No. 235. Elks will hold graveside services.
