Julia Edith Dirom Acres was the daughter of British Calvary Officer Charles Acres and his wife Henrietta Coxworthy.

She was the granddaughter of Thomas Ferguson Coxworthy and his wife Maria Yarker. Thomas Coxworthy served with the British Colonial Service in Canada at Quebec City, Nova Scotia and Kingston, Ontario where he died.

Although born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada where her father was stationed at the time, Julia and her elder brother John were raised in Plymouth, Devonshire, England.

Julia married George Penrose Woollcombe on August 1, 1893 in her and her mother's parish at All Saints Church on Prince's Park, Liverpool, England. The service was presided over by the groom's father, the Rev. W. P. Woollcombe.

She returned to Canada with him after their marriage.

Julia and George had three children:

1. Philip Herbert Penrose Woollcombe born May 25, 1894
2. Maithol Henrietta Woollcombe born September 25, 1895
3. Julia Phyllis Mary Woollcombe born 1 April, 1898

Julia died 5 weeks after the birth of their daughter Julia Phyllis due to complications from the birth.
