Janet L. Ozzard
Beloved mother and grandmother
Janet Lucile Ozzard, 91, of Skillman, N.J., died on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Princeton Medical Center.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she grew up in Roselle, N.J., and lived in a variety of places around New Jersey. She was a graduate of Abraham Clark High School and the Vail-Deane School. She wed Norbert E. Turek in 1948 and they had six children.
She was widowed in 1965, and remarried in 1967 to William E. Ozzard, at that time a state senator from Somerset County.
She is survived by her children: Leslie Turek-Deluccia, Allison (Thomas Isherwood), Peter Turek (Tina Tedford), Ginger (James Knickman), Norbert Turek (Melanie), and Janet (Kermit Perlmutter), as well as two stepdaughters from her second marriage, Susan Cruver and Kathy Ozzard Chism.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Peter, Amy, Sarah, Sage, Cedar, Rowan, and Ella.
After the death of her first husband, Ozzard took over his role as publisher of the Legislative Index of NJ, an indispensable reference tool that chronicled the activities of the New Jersey State Legislature. She ran it until 1997.
An accomplished amateur artist, crafter, and cook, Ozzard was also an avid nature lover and gardener, and enjoyed swimming, golf, and especially travel. In her later years, often accompanied by her children, she went to all seven continents. Her travel log included Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Ecuador, Iceland, England, France, Italy, Egypt, Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands, among other far-flung locations. Her annual Christmas letters were filled with her adventures, as she crossed off dream locations year by year.
Family will celebrate her passing privately. If desired, donations may be made to the World Wildlife Fund or the Audubon Society.
