Sharon Kay Cruz, daughter of Samuel Andrew and Maxie Burlene (Snow) Sheets, was born June 13, 1943, in Agnes, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, June 26, 2019, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-six years, and thirteen days.

On April 28, 1961, she was united in marriage to Alfonzo “Al” Cruz, Jr., and to this union three sons were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of forty-nine years, Al, on June 15, 2009; a grandson, Joel Cruz; a step-grandson, Nate Cornelison; three brothers, Robert L. Sheets, Clifford A. Sheets, and Andy Sheets, Jr.; and a sister, Marie Sheets Dana.

Kay is survived by three sons, Alfonzo Cruz, III, and his wife, Jacquelyn, of Springfield, Missouri, Andy Cruz, and his wife, Lori, of Conway, Missouri, and Tony Cruz, and his wife, Trena, of Greenwood, Missouri; five grandchildren, Santana Emmons, and her husband, Colton, McKenna Cruz, Alyssa Cruz, Justin Cruz, and Caedon Cruz; a step-granddaughter, Gracie Emmons; a step-grandson, Matt Cornelison; three great-grandchildren, Easton, Bentleigh, and Oakleigh; four brothers, Stanley Sheets, and his wife, Darlene, of Brewster, Washington, Kenny Sheets, and his wife, Joann, John Sheets, and his wife, Rosie, and Mike Sheets, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a sister, Lou Bayles, of Sullivan, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and many friends including special friends, Karen Horton, of Montreal, Missouri, Glenda Medley, and Desi and Marie Castillo, all of Lebanon, Missouri.

She was born and raised in the Agnes and Competition, Missouri area, and graduated from Lebanon High School. After she and Al were married, they made their home near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their sons. Kay loved being a homemaker to her husband and family, but went to work for the H. D. Lee Company as an inspector for a total of thirty-five years. She retired when the plant closed in 2003. She then worked in an assisted living home for a year, where she enjoyed and loved the people who received her care.

Kay accepted the gift of salvation through the blood of Jesus at the age of ten in the home where she was born and raised. A Christian lady came to her home and told her the story of Jesus and that we were all sinners and that He died for our sins. She said He also needed us to repent of our sins and turn from our sinful ways and accept His gift of eternal life. Kay was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon for forty-five years. She enjoyed worshipping God with her church family, helping on four mission trips, many church meals and visiting people in the nursing homes.

She was an avid fan of her husband, boys, and grandchildren’s sporting events. She attended all of the games she could and was a great fan of her only dancer in the family, Alyssa. She attended as many dances as possible and had the privilege of seeing Alyssa dance in Torreon, Mexico. She also enjoyed cooking Mexican food for her family even at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kay was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. Her message to you is to turn from sin and accept Christ’s free gift of eternal life in Heaven. She was just a sinner saved by Grace; any good in her and from her came from her Heavenly Father above. All Glory belongs to Him!
