GILBERT CALLOWAY LORANZO HUSTON RUTLEDGE
1st born of John and Rebecca (Parsons) Rutledge
children, he was born 28 October 1835 in the section of
Alabama that was named Cherokee County in 1836; died
18 April 1918 in Jamestown, Arkansas, and buried in the
old Jamestown cemetery with a double marker.
he left Alabama and came to Jamestown with
his parents/brothers and sisters in 1852 where he met the
lovely Miss Lovisa James. He married 29 June 1854 in
Jame town, Arkansas, Miss LOVISA JAMES, born 14
Marc' 1838 in Tennessee; died 17 September 1911James^
town and buried with her husband in the old Jamestown
cemetery with a double marker on their graves. She was
daughter of DANIEL and MILINDA JAMES of Jamestown
The name of this town Alderbrook was changed
and . named Jamestown in his honor on 2 June 1880

Daniel James was born 23 May 1816 in Tennessee and d^ed
29 July 1900 in Jamestown and Milinda James was born
18 March 1818 in Tennessee and died 1 D^t o 1^ , bc ^
buried in the old Jamestown cemetery, the rocks that had
marked their graves are now missing. Rumors say that
Frank and Jess! James, the outlaws, were cousins of Lovisa
(James) Rutledge.
Gilbert Calloway, as he was called also carried the
title of "ESQUIRE." He and Lovisa owned: a^large farm, be
tween Jamestown and McHue, Arkansas where they
raised all the produce that was consumed by them except
for coffee, tea, sugar, etc. Their orchard was where
they held family gatherings with tables; spreadamong the
fruit trees. LovisI made their clothing on their spinning
wheel and there is one of the aprons she made gill in tne
Pierce family that has passed from one member to anotner.
Gilbert Calloway served in the Civil War and War
Record is on file in the State House in Littie Roc^ Arkan
sas, Veterans Application Number 1912 ^
listed 10 January 1862, served as a Sergeant
3rd Arkansas Cavalry, Confederate Army and was
discharged 5 June 1865.
