Joyce L. (McIntosh) Brandes, age 90, of Prairie du Chien, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien after a long battle with C.O.P.D.
Joyce was born the youngest child of Harry and Bena (Sanger) McIntosh on August 5, 1928. She grew up with her 4 brothers on the family farm outside of Dodgeville. She attended and graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1945.
Joyce met and married Orville. J. Brandes on April 21, 1949. They spent many years farming in Southwest Wisconsin and raising 5 children.
Joyce faced many challenges in her life. One of the toughest was when her son Kip was killed in 1971 at the age of 18.
Eventually she and Orville divorced in 1975 and she supported herself working several jobs, primarily as a housekeeper for 12 years at Boscobel Nursing Home, before retiring in 1990.
Joyce spent the rest of her years enjoying crossword puzzles, traveling and her friends and extended family.
She accepted Jesus as her savior 10 years ago which brought her great comfort. We imagine her with her Mother , LeRoy and Kip.
She is survived by her children, Maxine Brandes of Prairie du Chien, Hilda (Eric) Hendren of Wauzeka and Rex Brandes of Boscobel; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 4 ( plus 2 expected) great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a still born son, LeRoy; a son Kip; siblings, Milo, Vernon, Kenneth, Glenn and Edith; a baby brother Evan and a half sister Ruth.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 11:00 am, at the Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home, 104 Fremont St., Boscobel, with Pastor Andy Doll and Pastor Thadeous Peak officiating. Burial will be in the Boscobel Cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home in Boscobel, also 1 hour prior to service time on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Boscobel Rescue Squad and the Bible Baptist Church in Prairie du Chien.
