The family of Leonard Abraham regret to announce his peaceful passing at Noric House on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006 at the age of 90 years. Dad was born in Siberia on April 8th, 1916 and his family immigrated to Canada in 1927, settling in Manitoba. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Theresa on August 1st, 2005, his father, Frank in 1952, his mother, Bertha in 1973 and his sister, Olga in 2005. Dad is survived by his loving family; his daughter, Shirley (Orlando) Floritto , his son, Sherman (Anne) Abraham, his grandchildren; Arlana (Arden) Powell, Arlene (Maris) Ceksters, Darren (Sherri) Abraham, Kim (Brian) Atamanchuk and Paula (Brian) Strachan, his great-grandchildren; Alicia and Thomas Powell, Sasha Ceksters, Justin and Tyler Abraham, Brennan and Caelan Atamanchuk and Jeremy and Syndi Strachan, his sisters; Alice, Cecile and Violet and his brothers; Richard and Lorne. Dad worked at a very young age on farms in Manitoba and moved to B.C. in 1937 where he worked in the logging industry and orchards. In Rutland, he met Theresa Kornze whom he married in 1938. He worked at various jobs and in 1951 he worked as a Janitor for the CNR in Kamloops where he retired and later raised chinchillas and exotic birds for which he and Mom won many first place trophies and awards. They moved to Vernon in 1985 where he enjoyed gardening, growing lovely roses and being active in the Lutheran Church. In April, 2000, he and Mom moved to Noric House where he also had a rose garden until his health began to fail.
The Funeral Service will be held at Living Word Lutheran Church, 6525 Okanagan Landing Road on Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Al Pinno officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
We, the family wish to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ross Waldron, the staff and friends at Noric House who were always loving, caring and compassionate. Thank you for making Dad's last years enjoyable and full of fun. "Rest in peace Dad. We will love you and miss you forever."
