Roger was born Dec. 2, 1935, in Crookston, Minn., the son of Henry and Bernice Berg. He married Shirley Shannon Jan. 5, 1958, and she survives.
Early in his career, he managed Mattingly stores in Lebanon, Butler and Columbia. The next 23 years, he was co-owner and manager of Columbia Photo. In 1992, Roger started Creative Photo, a commercial photo studio. He has been a seminar speaker and consultant in the photo industry.
Roger Berg has written three books about portrait photography and digital imaging.
Other survivors include son Jeff Berg and Shelly Elder; daughter, Vicky Rivera and husband Eric; grandchildren Louisa and Tony Rivera; and brothers Jerry Berg and Orvis Berg.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE:
Roger Berg was one of the greatest mentors in my life. He was kind, generous and always creating. I loved working for him because I never knew what challenge he would throw at me next. He was an great example of how age is no excuse for not keeping up with technology. He was a genius when it come to knowing his market. I'm so glad that in the end, he got to just shoot his pictures. At Columbia Photo & Video, he worked so hard at being the leader of technology in town. In 1984, he come to me and said he was putting in a new video transfer department and he wanted me to learn it. I was so mad, I didn't want to learn this video nonsense, I was a serious photographer. It cracks me up to think I even questioned him. He gave me expert training and turns out, we were probably the first video transfer department in the state and I got swamped with awesome old 8mm and 16 mm video of incredible footage. Home movies of prominate families and businesses around the state and everyday people just enjoying life. It was my passion and ever since I have learned to love the art of video production. All because, Roger Berg, knew his people and what they could do.
Here's a great quote that pretty much sums him up:
"I look at every new and unusual job as an adventure," Berg said. "I'm not afraid of failing if some of my ideas succeed. And I forget mistakes quickly."
