Mary Katherine Greene, 67, died after collapsing Friday at a South-eastside funeral home where services were held for her son, an Indianapolis police officer.

Mrs. Greene, a resident of Walton in northern Indiana, was pronounced dead Friday at St Francis Hospital Center.

Mrs. Greene collapsed moments before a funeral service for her son, Indianapolis Police Department Sgt. Jack S Greene.

Sgt. Greene, 35, was off duty when he was killed in a traffic accident on I-65 on the Southeast side. He was a passenger in a car driven by his wife, Beverly, who was injured.

Beverly Greene remains in Methodist Hospital where she was in serious condition Saturday.

Sgt Greene had been cleared to return to full duties just last week after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Duane Pascoff, funeral director for Sterling-Gerber Funeral Home, 5950 East Thompson Road, said Greene’s mother was sitting with other family members I the funeral chapel when she lost consciousness.

Franklin Township rescue workers rushed her to the hospital.

Mrs. Greene was a member of Walton Christian Church and was a buyer for Sunoco Gas and Grocery Stores in Logansport. She was the widow of Clyde Greene.

Services will be at 10:30 am Tuesday at Murray Funeral Home, Walton. Calling will be from 3 pm to 9 pm Monday.
