J. L. McDowell died at his home, 911 East 8th Street at 9 o'clock, September 7, 1908.
He was born in West Virginia, August 14, 1824. At the age of 15 he emigrated with his parents to Indiana. Later he went to Illinois. In 1866 he and his brothers, Calvin C., William W., John E. and Thomas G. McDowell moved their families to Cherokee Co., Kansas. In 1884 he again followed his brothers west to Kittitas Valley, Washington.
He leaves five daughters, Miss Carrie McDowell, Mrs. L. A. Vincent and Mrs. J. N. Weaver of this city, Mrs. Ada Nelson of North Yakima and Mrs. Mary Remington of Meridian, Idaho, with a large number of grandchildren and relatives to mourn his loss. The funeral was held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the M. E. Church of this city of which he was a member.
