DEATH COMES TO CARRIE M'DOWELL
Pioneer Valley School Teacher Dies This Morning
Miss Carrie L. McDowell, 84, pioneer Kittitas valley schoolteacher and early-day graduate of the Ellensburg Normal school, died here this morning after a long illness.
Miss McDowell broke her hip in a fall at her home a year ago and had been hospitalized since that time.
She was born July 12, 1860, in Livingston County, Illinois. The family lived in Kansas, where she attended school, and came to Washington in 1884. She graduated from the Washington State Normal school, which opened here in 1891, in 1897. She taught in valley rural schools and in the Ellensburg schools for 35 years, retiring in 1926.
She was a lifelong and active member of the Methodist church and was a member of the Rebekah lodge.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Emma J. Vincent of Ellensburg, and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Honeycutt chapel, with Rev. W. M. Martin officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
